Impression™ Wave Pendant FAQs

Demonstration Video

Please watch this video in full before creating your Wax Impressions.

If you have any concerns about the quality of your impressions, please get in touch prior to sending them back. Unless our team have any concerns with the wax, your prints will be automatically processed on arrival to our studio. Adjustments or redo impressions can no longer be made once they are in production, so it is important you are happy with the impressions before you send them back.

Please remember, children under 12 months may not have defined enough prints for wax casting. Although it is case by case, we recommend waiting until you can see the lines on their fingers before going ahead.

Creating Your Impressions

Your Impression™ kit includes three wax pendants, allowing you multiple opportunities to create your preferred impression.

A smaller lighter is recommended, as it provides more precise and controlled heat. A longer lighter such as a BBQ lighter can also be helpful, but make sure to put it on the most concentrated setting, so that you get the most directional heat possible.

The surface should appear glossy and wet. It should feel soft and pliable, while still holding its shape. If it feels too firm when you press into the wax, gently warm it again.

A gentle, even touch is all that's needed. If you have heated your wax enough, and evenly, a gentle press should be all you need to make a good impression. Pressing too firmly may alter the shape of the pendant.

Absolutely. We encourage blank areas as they can be used for stone setting, engraving, or simply as part of the final design - fitting beautifully into the organic nature of the pendant.

Yes. You can work in sections, heating and pressing one area at a time to create multiple impressions if desired. Please note this pendant is only suitable for single sided impressions, so all impressions must be made on the front of the pendant.

No. This Impression design is intended for single-sided impressions only.

It is normal for the link to soften slightly during heating, and our jewellers can restore and refine the link during production.

Simply wait one minute, reheat the wax, and try again. Each wax pendant can typically be reheated and reworked 2–3 times. Please be mindful of overheating the pendant, as the organic edge cannot be recreated once you have sent your impressions back to us.

If you've used all three wax pendants and would like another opportunity to try, please get in touch with our team. We understand that this design can be more intricate to work with, and we're happy to discuss the next steps with you.

If you'd like guidance before starting, or while working with your waxes, you can book an online consultation with our team who can guide you through the process!

We do not recommend creating the Wave Pendant with pet impressions. Due to the delicate nature of the edges and the more intricate design of this piece, it is best suited to human fingerprints where the impression can be placed with greater precision and control. If you're hoping to create a piece with your pet's impression, our team would be happy to recommend a more suitable design.

After heating, the wax will stay workable for around 5-10 seconds. It helps to have everyone taking an impression ready before warming the wax so you can take the impression while it is soft. If it cools too quickly, you can reheat it and try again.

Selecting Your Impressions

Your finished piece will reflect the exact impression captured in the wax, so it’s important that you’re happy with how it looks before sending it back. It’s important to note that some fingerprints are stronger or less defined than others, often depending on age, but even faint prints can still leave a visible impression in the wax.

To check your impression clearly:

  1. Hold your phone torch over the wax, or
  2. Take a close-up photo using your phone flash.

If you can clearly see the details of the fingerprint or impression in the light, your wax is ready to send back.

If you’re unsure, you can email a flash photo of your wax impression to

impression@lindencookdesign.com and our team can confirm before you return it.

There’s no such thing as a perfect impression. Even light or partial prints can produce beautiful jewellery. Our jewellers refine the piece while preserving the unique character of your original wax impression.

Once all three wax pendants are complete:

1. Use your phone torch to look closely at each impression and observe the detail.

2. Choose your favourite.

Place your preferred wax in Container #1, then label #2 and #3 in order of preference.

Yes. If we believe your wax impressions may not produce the best result, our team will contact you before starting production. However, it’s important to remember that your interpretation of a good impression may differ from ours. For this reason, we always recommend checking your wax carefully before sending it back. When impressions arrive at our studio, we generally assume that you are happy with the result.

If we contact you to say that the impressions are too faint and you would like to try again, our team can provide a link to purchase a Redo Wax Kit. A Redo Wax Kit costs $30 AUD and includes new wax rings so you can create fresh impressions.

If you decide not to proceed with your order, we can offer a refund or store credit within one month of purchase. The refund will be issued minus the cost of shipping and the Impression™ Kit, provided the wax impressions have not been returned to our studio. Once the wax impressions have been returned and production has begun, the order becomes non-refundable.

Yes. The return card must be completed in full so we can process your wax impressions.

Please include:

  • Your order number
  • Whether we may use your second or third preference
Making Your Impression Piece

Your wax impression is used to create your jewellery using the lost wax casting method. This process replaces the wax with molten metal, meaning the exact impression captured in wax becomes your final piece in solid metal. Our jewellers then carefully refine the edges while preserving the unique detail of your original impression.

Because each piece is created from your unique wax impression, every item is made entirely to order in our studio.

Current lead times begin once your wax impressions arrive back to us and are processed.

Silver, Solid Yellow & Rose Gold:3-4 weeks
Solid White Gold: 4-5 weeks
Gold Plated:6-7 weeks

If you choose to add a silicone mould, please allow an additional 2 weeks to these lead times.

Caring For Your Impression Piece

All of our solid metal pieces can be worn in the shower and will maintain their colour and strength over time.
