Jewellery Care
We take pride in our craftsmanship and strive to create high quality jewellery that will stand the test of time. By taking care of your pieces properly, you can cherish them for years to come.
All Linden Cook pieces come with a microfibre cleaning pouch or cloth. We recommend storing your pieces individually inside the packaging when you are not wearing them. Please note if you are planning to store your jewellery for a long period of time in the box (more than a week) we recommend storing the jewellery in an airtight container such as a ziplock bag.
To clean solid gold jewellery, use warm sudsy water containing a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid and rub gently with your fingers or a cotton swab. For a more abrasive cleaning (only if needed), brush lightly with a very soft baby toothbrush but be gentle, as you do not want to scratch the metal. Do not use toothpaste or baking soda to clean gold jewellery, as they are much too abrasive. Rinse your gold jewellery thoroughly with warm water and dry with a cotton cloth. Avoid using paper products such as tissues because they contain particles of wood that can scratch the gold's surface. Before storing, let the gold jewellery lie flat and air dry completely, overnight if possible. Moisture speeds the tarnishing process so it's important to make sure your gold jewellery is dry before putting it away. Once the jewellery is dry, if it looks dull, rub it gently with a jewellery polishing cloth. Use a clean cloth, or a clean section of a previously used cloth, so that the gold is not scratched. To avoid creating a pattern, rub with the polishing cloth in varying straight lines, not in a circular motion. Store pieces individually in the LC organic microfibre pouch provided.
- Protect your jewellery from scratches, sharp blows, chemicals.
- Remove your jewels when doing household cleaning if using harsh chemical products.
- Do not wear your jewellery while in a chlorinated pool
Your Sterling Silver pieces should be cleaned with a special Silver cloth and, if required, a small amount of silver polish. Rinse your piece thoroughly in warm water and dry carefully. This will remove any tarnish and dullness and keep your jewellery looking like new. Never use tissues or paper towels for cleaning, as these products will scratch the jewellery. Lay the piece flat and let it air dry (preferably overnight) to make sure it is completely dry before storing. Moisture speeds the oxidisation process so it's important to make sure your jewellery is dry before putting it away.

Gold Plated pieces are delicate jewellery items. The best way to clean and restore shine gold plated jewellery is to lightly wipe your gold plated piece with a gold jewellery cloth or a damp cotton cloth to remove surface dirt or dust. Avoid using abrasive polishing cloths as they may remove too much of the gold surface. For a deeper clean, gently wash with warm soapy water. Ensure your piece is rinsed and dried thoroughly. Moisture speeds up the tarnishing process, so before storing ensure your piece is completely dry by laying it to air dry (preferably overnight). Please note that we do not recommend cleaning your piece in water often, as this will make the gold plating wear faster.
- Store each gold plated piece individually in separate Linden Cook microfibre pouches. Place in an airtight ziplock bag if storing for longer periods of time.
- Remove your jewellery when doing tasks such as gardening, cleaning & playing sport
- Apply make-up & hair spray before putting your jewellery on, as they contain chemicals that may damage jewellery
- Do not wear your jewellery while bathing or swimming. Salt water, chlorine in swimming pools, soap, perfumes, and personal products, including toothpaste can impact the gold plating
- Do not leave your jewellery on the bathroom or kitchen bench as the jewellery is at risk of sitting in water
- Do not store your jewellery next to heating vents, windowsills or in the car
It is important to note that while we use the highest quality gold plating possible, the plating on any piece will gradually wear over time. The lifespan of your gold plating will depend on how the piece is cared for. Where possible, we always recommend purchasing the solid gold option, for a piece you can wear every day, forever.
While we source the highest quality chains possible, it is important to remember that our fine chains are still very delicate pieces that need to be worn with care. Avoid wearing while playing sports, swimming, and take care when adjusting the chain around your neck to prevent the chain from stretching or snapping over time.
If you have an Impression Piece, avoid rubbing it between your fingers or against other pendants to preserve the print, as over time this may cause the metal to wear, impacting the quality of the piece. If you are making multiple impressions for one chain, we recommend trying to make the impressions concave to avoid the prints rubbing against each other.
