Ink Impression Demonstration
Your step-by-step guide to capturing the perfect print
Laser Impression FAQs
We offer a selection of three beautiful fonts for you to choose from, ideal for engraving names, numbers, initials, or sentimental words. See the images below for reference. If you’d like to use a font of your own, select “Custom Artwork,” and we’ll work with you to create the perfect finished piece.
A custom artwork is a design provided by you for an engraving. This could be anything from sentimental handwriting to a drawing from your little one. Custom artwork includes any fonts, symbols or designs that are not created using our standard font selections.
Impressions can include anything from an ink fingerprint to a handprint or footprint. Depending on your impression and your chosen piece we can engrave a full handprint or footprint, fingerprint, or a cropped section from your print.
This also includes ink impressions from pets, such as paw prints and nose impressions.
To place an order for a Custom Engraved piece, select your chosen jewellery style, choosing whether you would like to use our standard fonts, custom artwork or an ink impression. For designs using our standard fonts, please include the letters or numbers you would like engraved and the standard font number (1, 2, or 3) you would like us to use in the notes section of your order.
For custom artwork and ink impressions, we’ll be in touch shortly after your order is place via email, with simple instructions on how to send us your design. Once we have received it, we’ll create a mock-up for you to review. You’ll have the chance to request any tweaks before we finalise the design and carefully engrave your piece.
Laser Impression pieces are created from digitised images or scans and engraved directly onto a piece that has been handcrafted in metal.
Our Signature Impression range is created through physically pressing a surface, for example a finger or paw, into wax to create a print.
Both methods produce beautiful results and suit different needs. For example, your decision may be guided by how organic you’d like the final piece to feel, or whether a physical impression is practical or possible for you.
If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to email clear images or scans of your impressions or artwork to laser@lindencookdesign.com, along with a brief description of what you have in mind for your piece. Our team will be in touch to discuss your ideas and give you confidence in the final design.
One of the benefits of taking ink impressions is that you can take as many as you need to capture one that’s perfect for engraving. If your first attempts aren’t quite right, don’t worry - you’re welcome to retake the prints at any time. There’s no strict timeframe for sending them to us, and our 2-week price guarantee ensures your order is protected while you get the perfect impression.
If you’re unsure, you can send photos of multiple prints and our team will help guide you to the one that’s most suitable for your chosen piece.
We also understand that, in some situations, it may no longer be possible to take new impressions from a loved one. In these cases, our team is here to gently guide you — whether that’s advising on which areas of an existing print are usable, or exploring alternative options, such as incorporating handwriting, so you can still create a piece that beautifully captures their touch.
We can create high quality engravings from a clear image of your ink impression. For this reason, we recommend emailing images of your impressions rather than providing the original copies, so you can keep the original prints at home and reduce any risk of loss or damage in transit.
As part of our process we will digitise your design and refine some of the print lines if necessary, to ensure that your engraved result is even and defined.
All pendants can be engraved on both the front and back, with the exception of delicate styles such as our Petite necklace and bracelet pendants.
We can engrave the inside band of our Signature Band Ring in both Narrow and Classic widths.
Standard fonts, letters, dates and most custom artwork designs can be engraved on the inside of your ring band, however more complex engravings such as fingerprint impressions are unable to be engraved on the inside of the ring. Please feel free to reach out to our engraving team via email to confirm what’s possible for your chosen piece.
There’s no strict word limit. However, as each piece is different, the size and shape of your chosen design will affect how much text can be engraved clearly. If needed, our team will contact you to discuss adjustments that ensure the best result.
Yes, our team will send you a mock-up of your artwork on your chosen piece to ensure you’re happy with the design. This gives you an opportunity to request any final adjustments or tweaks before we proceed with carefully engraving your artwork.
When placing your order, simply leave a note at checkout with the text you’d like engraved, your preferred font, and any specific details placement. Our team will be in touch with a mockup of how this will appear on your special piece prior to going ahead with your engraving.
The standard character height is 2mm and your engraving will be centred unless otherwise specified . Once we receive your order, our team will prepare a mockup showing how your engraving will appear on your special piece and will be in touch with this preview for your approval before proceeding with the engraving.
After placing your order, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to provide your artwork. The easiest method is to email clear, high-quality images of your impressions or artwork to laser@lindencookdesign.com.
If you’ve already shared your artwork with us before ordering, just leave a note at checkout to let us know.
You can review the lead times for our Custom Engraved pieces here.
If you require your piece in time for a specific date, please leave a note in the ‘cart notes’ when checking out. While we can’t guarantee every urgent request due to the handcrafted nature of our pieces, we will always do our best to accommodate where possible.
Many Linden Cook pieces from our Laser Impression range can be returned to us to have an additional engraving added. Please contact our team with the details of your current piece and your new engravings and we will be happy to guide you through the process.
No, we don’t send out a kit for you to capture your ink prints. For best results we recommend using a black ink pad which can be purchased at most newsagents and office supplies stores, and any plain white printer paper.
We recommend using a thick, black pen or marker on white paper to draw or write your custom artwork. As part of the digitisation process, some lines may be thickened by our team to ensure your engraving is clear and defined on your chosen piece.
