'I searched for anything and everything to keep pieces of my mum with me. I found Linden Cook and created my impression necklace and wore it every time she was in hospital, or unwell or if I needed to feel close to her.'
We were so touched to hear about the piece that Mel created to feel close to her mum after her devastating MND diagnosis.
1. Whose fingerprint is on your Impression piece and why is it special to you?
My impression piece has my beautiful Mum and now guardian angel's fingerprints on it. On 1 March 2023, my Mum was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. It was the most painful and heartbreaking news for my family. My sister and I were both pregnant with our first children, her first grandchildren. Knowing that our time was now limited, we spent every spare moment with Mum, and once our boys were born they brought her so much joy. When Mum was able to write we made sure she wrote us cards for future milestones and birthdays, notes about life and anything really. I searched for anything and everything to keep pieces of my mum with me. I found Linden Cook and created my impression necklace and wore it every time she was in hospital, or unwell or if I needed to feel close to her.
On 12th February 2024 Mum passed away, just under a year after her diagnosis. I now treasure this necklace more than ever. I wear it when I'm sad, have a big life moment to go through or just when I miss her.
2. Can you tell us a little more about your mum?
Mum was a registered nurse for over 40 years, she was always helping others. Mum was the brightest light in every room, she had the kindest heart and was the type of person who would never turn up empty handed to anything, always with a small gift or a meal. She was the first person to write a thank you note.
3. What is the biggest lesson your mum taught you?
Kindness is free.
4. How did you find the Impressions process?
The process was very user friendly. Even with mum unable to press the impression wax herself, I was able to place it between her fingers.
5. Are there any organisations or charities you would like to share with us?
Motor Neuron Disease Australia. MND Australia provides Equipment, training, resources for family and especially potential life changing trials.
Fight for MND. Fight MND also raises great awareness for the disease. Their annual big freeze events bring in a lot of support for the cause.
